The summer Olympics 2020 also known as Tokyo 2020 is an international Upcoming multi-sports event which was suppose to originally held in Tokyo From 24th July to 9th august was rescheduled due to COVID-19 will now be held from 23rd July to 8th august 2021 but it will keep the name Tokyo 2020 for branding and marketing purpose. This will be the first ever Olympics that has been postponed rather than choosing to cancel the Olympics like they were cancelled in 1916, 1940 and 1944. In Buenos Aires on 7th September 2013 in 125th IOC Session Tokyo was selected as Olympic host city of 2020 and this was the second time Tokyo was selected as the host of summer Olympics as they hosted the first summer Olympics in 1964 making Tokyo the first city in Asia to have hosted the summer Olympics twice and making it the fourth Olympic games to be held in Japan as they have also hosted the winter Olympics in Sapporo in 1972 and Nagano in 1998. These 2020 Olympics games will also be the second of the three consecutive games to be held in East Asia as the first winter Olympics games were held in Pyeongchang, South Korea and the next games will be in Beijing, china 2022. In these Summer Olympics 2020 we will get to see the new competitions like 3*3 basketball, freestyle BMX and Madison cycling other than these new introduction in summer Olympics we will get to see more mixed events.

India is also going to compete in summer Olympics 2020 or Tokyo 2020 which have been delayed due to COVID-19. Indian athletes have participated in every summer Olympics since 1920, although they have made their official debut in summer Olympics in 1900 in Paris. In total India have till now participated in 26 summer Olympics games and is also going to participate in Tokyo 2020 with 74 competitors in 7 sports.

FIELD HOCKEY

Men Hockey team of India qualified for the Olympics after defeating Russia in playoff in Bhubaneswar at FIH Olympics qualifiers 2019

As for Indian women hockey team they qualified for Olympics after defeating united states in Bhubaneswar at FIH Olympics qualifiers at 2019

WRESTLING

Four wrestler qualified for the following classes into Olympics competition and all finished in top six and secure a spot in Olympic games in men’s freestyle 57, 65 and 86 Kg and women freestyle 53 kg at world championship held in 2019.

SHOOTING

Indian shooters get their quota places in summer Olympics because of their best finishes in Asian championships, ISSF world championship in 2018 and ISSF world cup series in 2019 as long as they get the minimum qualifying score.

ATHLETICS   

Indian athletes qualify for the summer Olympics by world ranking or by qualifying time in the following track and field events

FIELD EVENT: Neeraj chopra and Shivpal singh (Men’s Javelin throw)

TRACK AND ROAD EVENT: Bhawna jat (women’s 20Km walk), Irfan kolothum thodi (men’s 20Km walk) and Avinash sable (men’s 3000m steeplechase)

BOXING

In Olympics nine Indian boxers will participate out of which there are five men and four women name as follows

FOR MEN: Satish kumar (men’s super heavyweight), vikash krishan yadav (men’s welterweight), Amit panghal (men’s flyweight), Manish kaushik (men’s lightweight) and Ashish kumar (men’s meddleweight).

FOR WOMEN: Simranjit kaur (women’s lightweight), lovlina borgohain (women’s welterweight), Mary kon (women’s flyweight) and Pooja rani (women’s middleweight),

 ARCHERY

For archery four Indian archers have qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Three have qualified for men archery by reaching the qualifying stage in world archery championship in 2019 at Hertogenbosch, Netherlands and for women Indian archer scores victory in qualifying round of Asian championship in Bangkok, Thailand and book one of the three available spots.

EQUESTRIAN  

For the first time in two decades India have entered in the equestrian competition by finishing in top two outside the group selection of the individual FEI Olympics ranking.

In the last Olympics India have only won 2 medals one silver and one bronze and was ranked in 67th place. We hope India will do much better in Tokyo 2020 and will win more medals in this edition of Olympics only time can tell but our wishes will always be with them and will be UNITED BY EMOTION see you in TOKYO 2020.
